Julia Cahill was born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA where she earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts from Carnegie Mellon University. In 2008, she was apart of the first class to receive the Pittsburgh Promise Scholarship and graduated from Pittsburgh’s Creative and Performing Arts HS.
Julia has exhibited at the Mattress Factory Museum, Space Gallery, Future Tenant, and Monongalia Arts Center. She has also performed at the Warhol Museum and New Hazlett Theatre.
Her work ranges from painting and drawing to installation and performance art. She often paints portraits, landscapes, and animals as these subjects were a crucial part of her education in traditional art. Her conceptual work largely explores social issues that she finds prevalent on a daily basis. A recurring theme of how the female body is portrayed in media and pop culture can be seen throughout her work. She often uses satire to make challenging topics more approachable, allowing a dialogue to be initiated.
